Mother's Delivery Kits - Saving Lives
Mother's Delivery Kits are cost-effective and life-saving kits, for safer childbirth, developed by a team of medical professionals in Nigeria.
In the 2013 Save the Children ‘State of the World’s Mothers Report’ on the best and worst places to be a mother, Nigeria is ranked near the bottom of the list - 169th out of 176 countries surveyed.
On average, in Nigeria, for every 13 births, one baby will not live to be a year old. And for every 160 births, one mother will lose her life.
With a doctor patient ratio of 1:6,400, more than 70% of deliveries are taken by Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs).
We have seen nylon bags replace sterile gloves, toothpaste replace disinfectant and rusty blades, knives and even glass used to severe umbilical cord. This increases infection risk, asphyxia, sepsis and other related causes resulting in completely avoidable deaths.
We train TBAs in the appropriate use of our comprehensive birth kits.
A sterilized delivery kit at childbirth, complete with an immunization schedule, antenatal and immunization reminder forms and a system of setting up linkages with trained TBAs and skilled birth attendants is creating the change we want!
